Jess Anderson, a California native, works with screen printing and installation upon home design objects. Reacting to an Ikea lifestyle, where objects are inexpensive, mass produced, and easily discarded and tossed aside by their owners, Anderson covers these everyday furnishings with a heavy hand of color, and floral motifs. Rather than outsource to a machine, she imagines her body the machine as she methodically and repetitively screen prints her patterns. It is her hope that with love and hard work, she can improve upon these everyday objects, and in turn, increase their appreciation and value. She is inspired by Flower Power, the Harvard Arboretum, Andy Warhol, and movie theater carpets.
